Allison

The lyrics move between a very ordinary place—a bar—and an enormous, almost cosmic setting. The speaker seems to wonder where “you” and “me” are now, then turns to Allison, whose name is repeated like a refrain. The mood is dreamy and slightly melancholy, but “Hooray” adds a surprising note of cheer, as if sadness is something shared by everyone rather than faced alone.

“From distant star to this here bar” places the vastness of space beside everyday life, making the scene feel both strange and familiar. “The blues of everyone” likely means a common sadness or trouble, though the upbeat word “Hooray” may make that feeling sound playful or ironic. The line about the planets hitting the sun is an impossible, dramatic image; it suggests a world-ending event, or simply a moment of intense, surreal vision.

The lyrics do not explain who Allison is or how she relates to the speaker. Seeing her face during a cosmic collision could suggest that she is unforgettable, or that the speaker’s thoughts about her appear in a dreamlike, exaggerated moment. The brief mention of “him” is also unclear, so it may introduce another person or belong to the song’s shifting, fragmentary scene. The repeated name leaves Allison’s importance open to interpretation.
